Steve Watts

Drums, Keyboards & Vocals

Chip Walsh

Keyboards, Harmonica & Vocals

Chip has enjoyed many genres of music playing in bands since he was 12.  He joined The Emperors in 1967 only to be drafted two years later into the Army where he performed with a Vietnam touring band called Marshmallow Steam Shovel.  Back in the States he created a popular show band trio called The New Leaf with his brother and best friend.

In 1978 his career turned to teaching in SVUSD for 33 years.  He still played casually with many local bands.  In 2010 he’s finally back with The Emperors and still enjoying his first passion, Rock-N-Roll!

Dave Quintana

Lead Guitar & Vocals

Dave Quintana is a classically trained clarinetist and vocalist. He was a recipient of the U.S. Marine Corp's Outstanding High School Musician Award. The 'new' music was taboo at home so Dave's intro to rock 'n roll came via listening to local bands like The Emperors and The Shapes of Sound rehearsing at their parent's home down the street. When the British Invasion hit, Dave somehow persuaded his parents to buy him a guitar.

Dave has played locally for decades and has toured the U.S. and Canada. He is also a song writer, studio session musician/vocalist and a record producer. When his band, Pendulum, was signed by Venture Records, Dave's original song, Gypsy Spirit, charted on Billboard and garnered industry acclaim.

Dave eventually decided it was time to step back from performing, start a family and pursue a career in medical billing management. Today, music still remains a driving force in Dave's life. Being invited to join The Emperors in 2006 has brought Dave back full circle to his rock and roll roots, and his childhood dreams.

Randy Budihas

Drums, Percussion & Vocals

Randy joined the Emperors in the summer of 1967 while attending Wilson High School in Long Beach. Originally a trumpet player in school, he later transitioned to drumming after going to his first Buddy Rich big band concert at Disneyland in the late '60s. Drumming then became his passion. He performed with the Emperors from 1967–1981, travelling around California, the western U.S., and Japan as one of the highest-paying "night club bands" around. A large reunion concert at the Galaxy Theatre in 2001 set the stage for a full-time reunion with Steve Watts (founding member) for another 25+ years, along with other incredibly talented musicians. He is a lead vocalist, drummer, and percussionist, and plans to rock on well into the distant future.

Jamie Knight

Electric Bass, Acoustic Guitar & Vocals

Jamie joined the Emperors in 2018, after he retired from a 20 year career teaching High School.

Michael Simmons

Multi Instrumentalist & Vocals

Mike joined the Emperors in 2025, lending yet another voice to the group as well as being able to hop between guitar and drums as needed.  He is a high school teacher by day, working with student rockers, filmmakers, and journalists.  He's also a recording artist and producer, and can be found shopping for loud stage shirts and tank tops so he can fit in with the other guys.
